dunny munny bearbrick qee designer toy urban vinyl

Tell us a little about yourself
I am now 33, married and born and living in Nottinghamshire in England. I run my own company working as an artist and designer, doing everything from artwork for corporate print companies to running arts courses for ‘disengaged’ young people and of course custom toys and graffiti. I guess I am lucky to do what I love for a job but it does all kind of merge and it’s hard to get away from work sometimes, you’ll know how busy I am based on how long it took me to write these interview answers.
How and when did you get into designer toys?
A few years back I bought a couple of Qee from a shop in Hong Kong, always collected action figures like McFarlane stuff so seemed like a natural progression, as more came out I bought more and now you can’t move in my office haha.

What are your favourite toys and/or artists?
Got to love all the stuff produced by Mist and FF’s Teddy Troops are ace too, getting quite fond of Kubricks, only buy the odd one I really like but they have some great detail. Am still fond of Qee although again only the odd one now and again. Also try to get my hands on most of the 123Klan toys.
Tell us a little about your own collection
I guess I collect mainly stuff from graff artists, not really in to the cute stuff although am partial to some Superdeux for sure. Have a lot of Mist stuff, Futura, Flying Fortress, 123Klan that kinda thing and quite a bit by Dalek, still collecting the odd Qee and also robot type stuff like Jago.

When did you start customizing?
Only a couple of years back, my first custom was a tiny little CiBoy for the Octane3 forum secret Santa
What are your favourite toys for customizing?
Hard questions, not really fussed I guess, bigger ones are easier and stuff like the munny’s that are made for it are great as they come apart easy.

What materials and techniques do you use?
Whatever it takes, mainly I guess I just paint, so spray paint and acrylics mostly but I’m getting into doing more extra stuff so have a nice collection of parts and bits and bobs to play about with and the old milliput too.
How much time do you spend customizing a toy?
Depends what it needs and what time I have, I usually work on more than one at once and do a bit on them each day over a longer period of time like a few weeks. That’s why you’ll see none from me for ages and then a bunch at once…

Do you make other art besides customizing toys?
Yeah loads, I run a company that specialises in art and design, we work on a varied amount of stuff from graphics projects to youth work but everything is creative. I also paint my own canvasses and of course my main art form graffiti.

Do you take on commissions?
Of course I do…

Where can people see more of your work and/or contact you?
Best place to go is www.riot68.com , there’s upto date news (with RSS) a full gallery of stuff and a lil’shop too. Plus links to my Flickr, Myspace and Youtube stuff too.
